Biography
Michael P. Bandimere began his primary studies at the University of Southern California under the direction of Mr. Milton Thomas, having been awarded the Heifitz Memorial Scholarship. While studying with Mr. Thomas, Mr. Bandimere was also the violist in the USC Graduate String quartet as an entering freshman. While studying in Los Angeles, he was fortunate to study chamber music with Mr. Gabor Rejto, Eudice Shapiro, James Dunham, Yoko Mastsuda, and others. While in Los Angeles, Mr. Bandimere also studied with Mr. Alan deVertich, principal violist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and former assistant to Mr. William Primrose. Summer studies included the Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California, when in 1983 he was Principal Violist.
Mr. Bandimere completed his Bachelors of Arts degree under the direction of Ms. Claudia Shiuh and Mr. David Margetts at California State University Fresno. Having completed his BA, Mr. Bandimere came east having won fellowships with Ms. Martha Strongin-Katz at the Eastman School of Music and with Mr. Michael Tree violist of the Guraneri String Quartet at Rutgers University. He completed his Masters of Music with Mr. Michael Tree and now lives in West Windsor, New Jersey teaching a large private music studio, teaching viola, violin, and chamber music. He also works and performs in both the New York and Philadelphia areas as well.
Michael performs on a 1974 Alfredo Galea viola which was made and given to him while a student at the University of Southern California.
Studio
Thank you for your interest in my studio. There are many teachers who can assist your child in developing his or her musical talents. To help you decide whether I am the right teacher for your child, I have set down some of my views on teaching and the terms that apply to students in my studio.
My goal is to help my students develop the skills and study habits that will bring out their potential as young performers. Some will pursue careers in music. All will grow in their understanding and enjoyment of music-something that will benefit them for a lifetime.
Enrollment in the studio is limited. For every student admitted, others are placed on a waiting list. Consequently, I expect every student to practice diligently and come prepared for lessons. Structure and discipline are crucial in the development of musical talent, developing these disciplines are a large part of success on the instrument. This process of learning will have a terrific effect on all studies and disciplines, the art of studying music can have a great effect with all artistic development as well as academic pursuits.
The studio offers both video and audio assistance with taping available for all lessons. The studio offers two full recitals per year, as well as four to six master classes per year. These classes offer the student an opportunity to work on performance practice which prepares them for presentation work throughout their musical and academic studies. These recitals and classes offer a great sense of community amongst all students and parents.
